Fake Anti Viruses

Hi Staff, these viruses give me busy repairing personal computers on the side, so I thought I'd help you stay ahead of it here at school.

The Scam:

You come across a website that has a secure looking address like security-site-protection.net.... or something like that, and the warning comes up that you've got infections.  It looks VERY intimidating as the alarms are going off.  Prompts to install the scanner will come up, and are difficult to cancel out of.

Clicking OK, Install, or Run will INSTALL THE VIRUS.  Your computer will bog down immensely and you will be continually prompted to purchase some sort of program to "make it all go away".

NOTE:  You should NEVER see any infection warnings from any program except for your Anti Virus that is already installed, which is Trend Micro here at school.  Any other program warning you about threats, is usually a threat itself.

SOLUTION:  If you've come across something similar, please contact me.  You are not in trouble, it's not your fault, I just need to remove it before it infects other users.  Even if you don't think it installed, I'd like to get the web address blocked.

Here are some images of what they may look like.  When you take a closer look, you'll notice some bad grammar and misspelled words that should hint to their unprofessionalism.

 (Remove this errors... grammar)

Clicking Cancel here will USUALLY avoid the install.

Make a screencast video

Here is one method of how to make a screen capture video, like most of the tutorials I have here on my blog.

Here, I am showing Camstudio.org. The reason I like Camstudio is because it records to .AVI format which can easily be further edited in Windows Movie Maker, or most other video editing software.

Jing is also a good program. It's VERY easy to record. My problem with Jing though is it records to .SWF (flash format) which makes it a little more difficult to edit and share. (in the free version)

Then after you've made your video, upload it to Webertube.com and share with others.

Here's the tutorial:
