Import an Instant Messenger Contact List

Hi folks, the general concept applies to anybody using Groupwise Messenger, but I'll be using the example of Roy High's list.

You can save your contact list in Instant Messenger by going to File, and Export Contact List.  This will ask you where you'd like to save it, and what to name it.  The easiest place is the desktop.

This does nothing to your existing list, it just creates a backup file somewhere on your computer.  You can then give this file to somebody else so they can have the same contacts that you do.  Now, when they want to import your file to their list, this is where File and Import Contact List comes in.

When you recieve a contact list from somebody, either via email, CD, or USB jumpdrive;  In Messenger, go to File, and Import Contact List.  That's it.  This will bring in their contacts to your Messenger list.

Depending on who's list it was, there may be some contacts that are irrelevant to you, so you can just Right Click on them, and remove them.
