Here are some main points to remember:
- THE SPECIFIC EMAIL MESSAGE CANNOT EXCEED 20 MB;
- THE AGE OF THE MESSAGE DOES NOT MATTER, ONLY SIZE.
- CHECK YOUR "SENT" ITEMS, AND EMPTY YOUR "TRASH"
That's basically it. You do NOT have to delete old emails, if they are a decent size. Age does not matter. (At least for now. There will be a time where old emails will be cleaned out)
Since Groupwise does not abbreviate what a "MB" is, I'll show you how to determine this.
NOTE: The following can NOT be accomplished with Groupwise Webaccess (the online version). You must open your Novell Groupwise Client to follow these steps. Click the icon found on your desktop that looks like this, if it's not open already:
********************************************************************************************
Go to Tools, then Check Mailbox Size:
********************************************************************************************
By default, the "Trash" will be selected. Be sure to check ALL 4 categories. You'll see your current mailbox size, and this includes all of the categories. As you delete certain emails, you will see this number decrease (once you empty your trash).
For example, my total size is @56 MB, and we're deleting messages 20 MB or larger. So this gives me a good idea of how many I may have, if any.
If your total mailbox size were 16MB, then you would know FOR CERTAIN that there weren't any emails above 20MB.
********************************************************************************************
This email is only 4MB big, and will not need to be deleted, but can be if you choose.
********************************************************************************************
Here is an explanation of the filesize, and where the MB (megabyte) separator is.
********************************************************************************************
Although the notifications say 20MB, I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND anything 8 digits at all (10MB and larger) to be backed up.
Now, how do you back it up? Excellent question, I'm glad you asked.
When your "Check Mailbox Size" window is still up, DOUBLE CLICK that specific email, and it will open.
You'll see the attachments within the email. RIGHT CLICK on the attachment(s) and SAVE AS. Choose a location on your computer, M Drive, or USB jumpdrive to save to.
********************************************************************************************
Now you have that attachment saved to your computer, and the email can be deleted. Most of these large emails will be photos, movie clips, or other office document attachments. You don't necessarily want to save the email, you just want those attachments.

ReplyDeleteHey thanks for putting that together!
ReplyDeleteWere you able to find out why my computer has no sound?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, Judy. I haven't yet. Your soundcard may be bad, and we might have to replace it for you. You could also buy some cheap speakers, and see if those work first. You can get them for around $7, or even see if there are some laying around.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the help. I'm going to get everything backed up. I also have no sound on my computer. I know I cheap speakers around my house, although I would prefer not to clutter up my computer desk.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a projector in your room? This is probably the reason for your audio issue. I can fix that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info! You are so helpful!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. Thanks for the feedback
